GOP chairwoman rebukes her uncle — Mitt Romney — for anti-Trump op-ed
January 02, 2019
Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel rebuked her uncle, Sen.-elect Mitt Romney, R-Utah, Wednesday after Romney authored an op-ed slamming President Donald Trump's character in the Washington Post.
McDaniel called his op-ed "disappointing and unproductive."
In his op-ed, published Tuesday evening, Romney said "the Trump presidency made a deep descent in December," noting the departures of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly from the administration and Trump's decision to pull troops out of Syria.
Reiterating his opposition to Trump in 2016, Romney wrote that the president's conduct in office "is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office."
Trump inevitably responded to Romney, saying the incoming freshman senator should "be a TEAM player & WIN!," comparing Romney to outgoing anti-Trump Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.
Flake, for his part, liked Romney's op-ed.
