GOP report counters Dem impeachment arguments

The following is an excerpt from Blaze Media’s Capitol Hill Brief email newsletter:

Ahead of Adam Schiff’s report on the House impeachment probe, House Republicans released their own 123-page report on the evidence the investigation has managed to turn up these past few months.

The report — prepared by committee staff — explains in depth why the evidence collected by House investigators doesn’t establish anything impeachable, that what it does establish is well within the limits of the office of the president of the United States, and that Trump “holds a deepseated [sic], genuine, and reasonable skepticism of Ukraine due to its history of pervasive corruption." It contends that the “key disagreement” in the impeachment debacle “is a difference of world views and a discomfort with President Trump’s policy decisions” and that the opinions about those decisions espoused by Democrats and “some unelected bureaucrats” aren’t grounds for impeachment.

“In our system of government, power resides with the American people, who delegate executive power to the President through an election once every four years,” the report concludes. “Unelected officials and career bureaucrats assist in the execution of the laws. The unelected bureaucracy exists to serve the elected representatives of the American people. The Democrats’ impeachment narrative flips our system on its head in service of their political ambitions.”

Basically, the document provides a detailed counter to various impeachment arguments as the House moves forward through the contentious process.
