Iranian regime leaders lash out at Trump, rebuff offer for talks

Iranian regime Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has rebuffed President Trump’s offer for direct talks with the mullahs who rule Tehran.

“The Americans have never acted with sincerity, and Trump’s move and remarks were merely a publicity stunt,” Zarif cried to Iran’s state media following a Wednesday cabinet meeting. “The main reason behind this is that Trump does not care about either the Iranian people or international obligations.”

At the end of July, President Trump said he would be willing to meet with Iranian regime leaders without preconditions. His outreach was met with hostility from several regime leaders, including Iran’s figurehead president, Hassan Rouhani. Some have insisted that if President Trump does decide to meet with regime leaders, he should only meet with his true counterpart, Ali Khamenei, the “supreme leader” of Iran. Khamenei, unlike Mr. Rouhani, wields all the power inside of the country.

On Monday, the Trump administration reimposed punishing sanctions against the Iranian regime, which were lifted as part of the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with the terrorist regime. The president said in a statement on Tuesday: “The JCPOA [Iran nuclear deal], a horrible, one-sided deal, failed to achieve the fundamental objective of blocking all paths to an Iranian nuclear bomb, and it threw a lifeline of cash to a murderous dictatorship that has continued to spread bloodshed, violence, and chaos.”

Another round of sanctions is set for reimposition on November 5. The sanctions — coupled with the clerical regime’s gross mismanagement and diverting of funds to support terrorism instead of Iranians — has resulted in an economy in total free fall, coupled with widespread protests among Iranian citizens. This week alone, an estimated 100,000-plus have taken to the streets to protest the regime.

Unlike the Obama administration, the Trump administration is overtly supporting the aspirations of Iranian protesters. The White House has called on the regime to recognize their individual rights.
