Keeping an “open mind” on SCOTUS

Two weeks ago, the editorial board at USA Today published an opinion titled, “Anthony Kennedy has an open mind. So, too, should his successor.” But they said that it was unlikely that Trump would nominate an open-minded sort.

What exactly does an “open mind” mean to the people at the liberal USA Today?

He was unpredictable, and for that reason, the man to watch on ideologically fraught cases. Inevitably, the epic fight over his successor will focus on abortion rights and same-sex marriage, both of which Kennedy supported.

The replacement for this enigmatic justice is unlikely to be as open-minded or unpredictable.

So it appears that “open-minded” means a justice who is in favor of abortion “rights” and same-sex “marriage.”

Then President Trump nominated Kennedy’s favorite clerk, Kavanaugh, who said right out of the gate that he would keep an “open mind” on all cases. So of course the liberal media breathed a sigh of relief and are pushing for confirmation of Kennedy’s favorite to reflect his own approval of 97-0, right? Not in this universe.

It’s quite an admission, isn’t it? That those supportive of these dubious “rights” rely on one person’s judgment to keep their “rights,” or, as they have so clearly articulated to all of us, women will be using clothes hangers for abortions or will be forced into chattel slavery, no longer able to rip apart the children within them, and gays will be forced to live together without a phony covenant or something. They just need one person, or it’s Armageddon.

Oh, sorry, I mean one “open-minded” person.

All you people who think ripping apart the pre-born and discarding them or selling their parts for profit is evil are so damn closed-minded, it’s ridiculous.

All you people who know the definition of marriage and its purpose in society have some sort of intelligence block.

The Left likes to say that this democracy is hard-fought and that in order to keep it, the Supreme Court must be aligned with their “open-mindedness.” And if anyone disagrees, those jugheaded subhumans must be destroyed.

In all seriousness, though, what the heck does Kavanaugh mean by keeping an “open mind” in every case?

Does he mean to use the term to try to reassure the Left, or does he mean he will consider emanations of penumbras in every case? Or does he mean he will be like his predecessor, who seemingly flipped a coin on every ruling unless it had something to do with made-up rights not in the Constitution, for which old Kennedy was a stalwart?

To make the Left happy, which shouldn’t be a consideration at all for a Supreme Court nominee, Kavanaugh will have to admit he will support and defend the Constitution’s destroyers. That would be the only reason for them to keep an “open mind.” And based on the reaction to the Left’s hysterics over Kavanaugh’s nomination, the Republican Party has made the nomination of this “open mind” a call to arms for all, which should worry just about every actual conservative out there.

I’m just wondering how an oath of office might look for someone who pledges to keep an “open mind.”

“I do solemnly swear that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as a Supreme Court justice under the Constitution and laws of the United States, but, you know, I’ll keep an open mind on all that. And that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same, unless of course I feel that the Constitution is too closed-minded; that I take this obligation freely, with some mental reservation for purposes of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, if it’s okay with our leftist overlords, so help me God.”

This “open-mindedness” has got me very nervous.
