Mike Kennedy vs. Mitt Romney: LIVE Utah Senate primary election results

Conservative Review

Voters in Utah will decide tonight who will be the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate to replace Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, the longest-serving Republican senator in United States history.

The overwhelming favorite to win is former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, the Republican Party's 2012 presidential nominee. Romney has dwarfed his opponent's fundraising, he has near-universal name recognition, and he was endorsed by President Donald Trump.

State Rep. Mike Kennedy is running a long-shot bid against him. Kennedy is a doctor and a lawyer. In April, he won the support of more delegates than Romney at the state GOP convention, forcing a primary election.

Utah uses a semi-closed primary system, meaning that a voter must generally be registered as a party member to vote in that party's primary. A previously unaffiliated voter can register and vote with the party of his or her choice. The polls close at 8:00 p.m. MDT.
