OPEN SEAT EXTRAVAGANZA: Sen. Bob Corker to retire in Tennessee

Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., announced Tuesday that he will not be seeking reelection to the Senate in 2018.

"After much thought, consideration and family discussion over the past year, Elizabeth and I have decided that I will leave the United States Senate when my term expires at the end of 2018," Corker said in a statement, reported by The Hill.

Corker, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is the first member of Congress to announce his retirement in the 2018 midterm cycle. Once considered a potential nominee for secretary of state in the Trump administration, Corker drew widespread opposition from conservatives, most notably for his role in the Iran nuclear deal.
