WTF MSM!? Merry Tax-mas: Media get bonuses due to tax cuts

A tax-cut bonus miracle …

Comcast bonuses … After the tax cuts cleared both houses of Congress yesterday, many companies announced that they were giving bonuses to employees, increasing wages, and increasing investment to help them grow. One of those companies was Comcast. The company announced $1,000 bonuses to more than 100,000 non-executive employees and a $50 billion capital expenditure plan. This means that the good people at MSNBC are going to get bonuses. What’s funny is they don’t seem that thrilled.

Sarah Sanders on fire … Early this morning, President Trump tweeted about the raises, bonuses, and increased capital expenditures and how the media would probably downplay the news. On cue, CNN media critic/cheerleader Brian Stelter tweeted a response talking about how some journalists would see bonuses. That’s when Sarah Huckabee Sanders went for the kill: “Even the media is getting a pay raise for Christmas because of the @realDonaldTrump tax cuts.” Merry Christmas! Everyone!

“Conservative” criticism … There has been significant criticism of the tax bill by conservative NeverTrump critics of the president.

Rather than be excited about a broad-based revision of the tax code, Bill Kristol focused on the positive side effects of passage: “Isn’t there something creepy about corporations giving cash bonuses to employees explicitly because of the passage of certain legislation or because of specific regulatory actions? Doesn’t it have something of a Road to Corporatist Serfdom feel to it?” Uh, no Bill, it has the feel of the economy getting set to roar because of tax code changes conservatives have championed for decades.

Then there is The Atlantic’s David Frum, who tweeted: “Something oddly symbolic about waking up to enactment of Trump tax plan on the darkest day of the American year.” No, there isn’t. Unless you meant it is adding light to an otherwise short day. Then yes, yes it is symbolic.

Stocking stuffers …

Thrush back … The New York Times’ Glenn Thrush will reportedly be coming off of a suspension enacted so that the Times could review accusations of sexual misconduct leveled by female colleagues of Thrush. The Times says that Thrush will be back but won’t cover the White House. This is confusing. If you are keeping him employed, why would it not be in the job he had? Unless there was some truth to the accusations, in which case, why would you continue employment? This is going to be a tough one for the Times to fully explain.

Tim Scott slays … My senator here in S.C., Tim Scott, just slayed a racist liberal Huffington Post contributor. Andy Ostroy tweeted (archived version): “What a shocker... there's ONE black person there and sure enough they have him standing right next to the mic like a manipulated prop. Way to go @SenatorTimScott. #trump #taxscambill”

Uh, racist much? There’s a simple truth. White people should not count the number of black people, anywhere. Like never. Scott was undaunted and fired back, noting how he crafted the legislation and whipped for its passage. CR’s Chris Pandolfo has the full exchange.
