Just how extreme is the Democratic Party becoming? The events of the last week speak volumes

The left moves to the hard left

With the election of new lawmakers like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and Ilhan Omar (Minn.), the Democratic Party has taken an extreme shift to the left, advocating for taxes of 70 percent to 90 percent on Americas wealthiest, the complete government takeover of the health care industry, and full-term abortion, just to name a few.

One tweet, from The Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra, sums up just how far left the Democratic Party is moving:

Several states, like Virginia and Rhode Island, have considered extreme abortion laws, which would essentially allow abortion up to the moment of birth, similar to a New York law passed last month. Virginia's bill did not make it out of committee, while Rhode Island is still considering its bill.

Several Democrats, including Ocasio-Cortez, have recently floated taxing wealthy Americans up to 70 percent. But it was Omar who suggested this week that the wealthiest American pay up to 90 percent in taxes.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) was accused of promoting infanticide during a radio interview, accusations he later denied. And on Friday, he found himself embroiled in new controversy over a 1984 yearbook picture that purportedly showed him dressed in either blackface or Ku Klux Klan robes. Northam on Saturday denied he was in the photo after initially apologizing.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who is running for president in 2020, said during a CNN town hall this week that all semi-automatic guns should be outlawed. During the same town hall, she advocated for the eradication of the private health care industry, comments she quickly walked back.

Finally, it was also Omar who voiced support for Nicolás Maduro's regime in Venezuela, and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) who allegedly belonged to a Holocaust denier Facebook group.
