JJ Redick exposes 'First Take' and Kendrick Perkins

JJ Redick is not playing along with the narrative.

On ESPN’s show "First Take," Kendrick Perkins implied that racism is the driving push to elect Nikola Jokic the NBA MVP.

Redick shot back, “What we’ve just witnessed is the problem with this show, where we create narratives that do not exist in reality. The implication of what you are implying is that the white voters that vote on MVP are racist, that they favor white people.”

Perkins then let out a series of barely intelligible “I stated the facts” and “no,” clearly taken aback and angered by Redick's rebuttal.

Jason Whitlock responds, saying “I love his point. We create a narrative that has nothing to do with reality. That’s what’s going on with Lamar Jackson, that’s what’s going on with Nicola Jokic and his MVP bid. They’re messing with the wrong one.”

He continues, “They’re gonna F around and find out that JJ Redick made 100 million dollars in the NBA and he’s not going to play their false narrative game.”

Steve Kim chimes in, “JJ, you were very disrespectful of the pioneers of the NBA because I thought you’re trying to curry favor with a certain generation of fan, but after yesterday … oh, that is a permanent revocation of your invitation to the cookout and barbeque.”

He continues, saying, “It had to be said, and you know what, looking at Stephen A.’s reaction, I don’t think he completely disagreed with JJ’s statement. He might not have liked it. He might have disagreed with it being aired out publicly, but I didn’t see him raising his hands saying ‘no, no, no,’ I didn’t see him defending a show. I think he realized, ‘You know what, you have a point.’”

At a time when few are willing to stand up to the silly narrative that everyone and everything is racist if you try hard enough to skew it as if they are, it’s safe to say that JJ’s statement was courageous and completely necessary.

Whitlock finishes, “This is beneath us; the game, me participating in these dumbed-down conversations. Hats off to JJ Redick for calling it out.”
