Cory Booker's publicity stunts are legendary, but what has he actually accomplished?
May 08, 2019
'Always playing to the camera, looking for his next great Spartacus moment'
On Tuesday's show, Glenn Beck continued his "Socialist Spotlight" series by taking a closer look at 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and his penchant for theatrical publicity stunts.
Glenn highlighted several of Booker's most headline-grabbing moments, such as his "I am Spartacus moment" during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, or that time Jon Stewart, host of "The Daily Show," called Booker "the superhero mayor of Newark" after he delivered diapers to a snowbound mother, and then shared the tale on Twitter. Even the Washington Post called Booker "... the first true social media influencer in politics."
"This is how Cory Booker operates, always playing to the camera, looking for his next great Spartacus moment," Glenn said. "If Booker was a super hero, he'd be the incredible Mr. Stuntman."
But beyond his obvious flair for the dramatic, what has Sen. Cory Booker accomplished?
Glenn noted how taxes increased 20 percent, 1,100 jobs were cut from the city payroll, including 160 policemen, and the number of people living below the poverty line in Newark, New Jersey, rose to 36 percent during Booker's last three years as mayor.
"One of his first acts as mayor was passing an 8.3 percent increase in property tax ... and a new tax on rental cars," he said. "When Booker left near the end of his second term as mayor to become a U.S. senator, he left behind a $93 million deficit. And I just want to say 'Thank you New Jersey for sending him to Washington'."
