Delta Flight Update: New Video Captures Tense Moments and Sparks
September 27, 2010
Over a year ago, Capt. Sully Sullenberger became a hero when he executed an emergency landing in New York's Hudson River. This weekend, a Delta pilot* accomplished a similar feet -- but this one included a physical runway without full landing gear, and a lot of sparks.
Delta flight 4951 was heading from Atlanta to White Plains, NY when the plane's landing gear failed to fully deploy. Dramatic new video captures the emergency landing once the plane was diverted to New York's John F. Kennedy airport:
UPDATE:
*According to the New York Daily News, the captain has been identified as 55-year-old Jack Conroyd, a retired Navy flyer from Lake Mary, FL. His co-pilot was 33-year-old Larkin Newby of Shermans Dale, PA.
