We first brought you the National Enquirer's report of a possible John Edwards engagement on Thursday. According to the Enquirer, Edwards popped the question to his former mistress Rielle Hunter just weeks after his estranged wife, Elizabeth, lost her battle with cancer. But on Friday, Edwards came out and denied the reports... via a spokesperson:
A spokeswoman for Edwards denied the claim in an interview Friday with the Daily Beast. But the National Enquirer, which first reported the development, is standing by its story.
And ABC News reports that sources close to the mistress, Rielle Hunter, also dispute the report of an engagement.
Who knows what to believe anymore? The Enquirer was startlingly accurate with their reports of his past infidelities with Hunter -- reports he vehemently denied at the time. The Enquirer also exposed the fact that Edwards had fathered a child with Hunter -- another report he denied. Edwards should know that after all the lies, his word is worthless.
And in the end, I could care less what Edwards does -- engagement or no engagement. He lost my respect a long time ago.
