GOP Reps Ask IRS to Investigate AARP

With reports that the AARP may bank $1 billion from ObamaCare -- a law the non-profit organization lobbied hard for -- three Republicans on the House Ways and Means committee have sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service calling for an investigation into the tax-exempt status of AARP. The Washington Times reports:

Authored by Reps. Wally Herger, R- Calif., Dave Reichert, R-Wash., and Charles Boustany, R-La., last week's report highlighted the fact that though it's considered a non-profit, roughly 60 percent of its revenue comes from its for-profit insurance business.

The report also estimated that the nation’s largest group for older Americans stands to rake in as much as $166 million in additional revenues by 2014 from selling insurance policies due to the passage of the national health care law it helped to muscle through Congress last year.
