You're Insane': Jon Stewart Debates Media Bias With FNC's Chris Wallace

Is the NYTimes "liberal" or "lazy"?

The Daily's Show's Jon Stewart appeared live on Fox News Sunday today to debate media bias with host Chris Wallace. Stewart has previously slammed the cable news giant in the past, calling it a "relentless agenda-driven 24-hour news opinion propaganda delivery system" -- a characterization Wallace obviously took offense to.

"Where do you come up with this stuff?" Wallace asked Stewart.

Stewart stood by his remarks, but when Wallace later argued that the Comedy Central host was confusing comedy with political commentary -- namely when comparing Sarah Palin's "One Nation" tour with a herpes medication commercial -- Stewart shot back, declaring Wallace was "insane."

"Here's the difference between you and I -- I'm a comedian first," Stewart said.  "My comedy is informed by an ideological background, there's no question about that. But the thing that you will never understand...is that Hollywood, yeah, they're liberal, but that's not their primary motivating force. I'm not an activist. I am a comedian."

When Wallace noted that Stewart was a sort of liberal "activist," Stewart fired back, claiming that Wallace "can't understand... there is not a designed ideological agenda on my part to affect partisan change because that's the soup you swim in... It reminds me of in ideological regimes, they can't understand that there is free media other places because they receive marching orders."
