This photo of five people viewing lower Manhattan across the east river from Brooklyn drew a lot of controversy when it was first released in 2006. The criticism from many towards Thomas Hoepeker's photo relates to the temperament of the five onlookers, seemingly apathetic to the tremendous human event across from them. The photographer speaks with CNN in regards to the photo:
