Hagwalah' - Wild & Crazy Driving in Saudi Arabia (We Call it 'Drifting' Here)
October 19, 2011
"Hagwalah is illegal and the people involved defy the police and government - a lot of them are actually in prison."
Have you seen the videos of the wild driving technique known as "Drifting?" Of course this kind of reckless driving is illegal and dangerous, but it happens all over the world. There are thousands of videos posted and websites dedicated to promoting "Drifting."
In Saudi Arabia drifting is called "Hagwalah" and while it is illegal, the rogue sport seems to have a significant following as large groups of people, armed with cameras AND guns, gather along the sides of the roads where most of the drifting happens.
The story posted on WorldCarFans.com notes;
To quote a YouTube commenter, "Hagwalah is illegal and the people involved defy the police and government - a lot of them are actually in prison."
In this clip, the drivers not only drift and spin, but can be seen firing automatic weapons into the air.
