Have a Little Fun': Obama Camp Collecting GOP Email Addresses on Re-Election Site

"Who inspires you to give?"

Are you a Republican? President Barack Obama's re-election campaign wants your email address.

As part of the campaign's push for online donations, there's a new option on the re-election website for donors to include the name and email address of a GOPer they know. According to the site, it's a way for donors to "have a little fun" with the Republicans in their lives, by telling them they've "inspired" them to make a donation to Obama.

It's listed under the heading "Who inspires you to give?":

This holiday season, we're giving you a chance to have a little fun at the expense of a Republican in your life by letting them know they inspired you to make a donation to the Obama campaign.

Simply enter their name and email address below. Then, we'll send them a message letting them know they inspired you to donate.

Keith Koffler from the White House Dossier observes:

The effort could help the Obama campaign build a database that would enable it to target Republican voters during the general election campaign. But, more perniciously, it could also become part of an Democratic effort to influence Republican primary voters to select a candidate Democrats think Obama could most easily defeat.

The Obama administration made headlines during the health care debate in 2009 when it encouraged supporters to collect and forward "fishy" emails and other information about the president's plan directly to the White House.
