Betrayal': New Paul Ad Savages Santorum

Ron Paul's campaign is out with a new attack ad, this time setting its sights on surging rival Rick Santorum.

Titled "Betrayal," the one-minute spot paints the former Pennsylvania senator as "the worst in Washington," hitting him for voting to raise the debt ceiling and accusing him of taking money from lobbyists and siding with union bosses over workers.

The ad will air South Carolina starting Monday, one week out from the state's primary.

As Politico noted, this is the first time the Texas congressman has gone after Santorum in a TV ad. It strongly resembles the anti-Newt Gingrich spot the Paul campaign ran in Iowa, which helped bring the former House Speaker's numbers down before the caucuses, and could potentially have a similar effect on Santorum.

Just days out from the New Hampshire primary, a poll released Friday had Mitt Romney in first place at 40 percent among likely Republican voters in the state, Paul in second place at 17 percent and Santorum third with 11 percent.
