Pollster Frank Luntz Caught Ripping Perry, Bachmann: She Blinked for 'First Time Last Week
January 10, 2012
"This is why I get into so much trouble."
Frank Luntz is well known in conservative circles. As a pollster, he regularly analyzes data and critiques messaging. Some might wonder, then, how the recent message he was caught delivering to a group of bystanders might be perceived, especially since that message included jokes about Rick Perry's intelligence and Michele Bachmann's eyes.
In a video linked on the popular conservative site Hot Air, Luntz can be seen and heard addressing a group gathered around him in what looks like a building lobby. The video begins with his jokes before he launches into some advice:
It's like Michele Bachmann, remember her? [Audience laughs] Did you ever see the movie "Fatal Attraction?" She reminds me of Glen Close in "Fatal Attraction." [Laughter] She actually blinked for the first time last week. [Laughter] Rick Perry is George Bush, without the intellect. [Laughter]
But almost immediately after cracking the Perry joke, Luntz seemed to know it might not go over well with everyone. "This is why I get into so much trouble," he said:
It's unclear when the remarks were made, but the video is dated January 9 and was uploaded by someone going by the YouTube name ScottHennen. In the video, the man identifies himself as a talk radio host. Scott Hennen is a conservative radio host from the Midwest.
Either way, the comments are curious considering Luntz did point out that he was being filmed, and eventually asked the man taking the above video to leave. But not before noting that, in politics, you have to be so careful about what you say.
"Everything you say can and will be used against you."
He did, however, say he was "just messing around" regarding his comments.
"Just for the record," he said with his hands cupped around his mouth, "I am messing around with you all."
