Human Hand and Foot Sent to Vancouver Schools

"It's not clear if the packages are linked to alleged killer Luka Rocco Magnotta, who is awaiting extradition from Germany in connection with the killing of university student Jun Lin."

Vancouver police have recovered apparent human remains from False Creek Elementary School and St. George's School, both institutions located in the Vancouver area.

Two separate packages, containing a human hand and a human foot, respectively, were recovered from the schools, in a case that bears eerie similarities to the dismemberment of Montreal student Jun Lin by suspected killer Luka Rocco Magnotta. Police say, however, that no clear connection has been proved to exist.

CBC Ottawa put up this video report, along with a more lengthy summary of the case:

Vancouver Police Department deputy chief Warren Lemcke told reporters Tuesday afternoon a package containing what appears to be a human hand was opened by a staff member at False Creek Elementary School just after 1 p.m. PT.[...]

He said the Vancouver Police Department has spoken with police in Montreal, but it's not clear if the packages are linked to alleged killer Luka Rocco Magnotta, who is awaiting extradition from Germany in connection with the killing of university student Jun Lin.

"The investigation is only a few hours old now, so I can't link it to anything right now," Lemcke said. "We have liaised with Montreal and we'll liaise with any other police agencies that we need to in the course of the investigation."

One of Lin's hands, a foot and his head are still missing.

In other words, it is possible that the two cases are connected, based on the body parts still missing, but the investigation currently is too short-lived to report on whether that connection exists.
