Santorum: Ron Paul and His Supporters 'Looking for a Platform Fight' at GOP Convention

"Counterbalance the effect of the Paul folks."

Former Republican presidential contender Rick Santorum said Sunday he's "concerned" Texas Rep. Ron Paul and his supporters are "looking for a platform fight" at the party convention in August.

"I like the platform that we have right now," Santorum said on ABC's "This Week." "I'm concerned that Ron Paul and some of his supporters out there are looking for a platform fight. And I want to make sure that we have strong, principled conservatives there who stood with me in our primary fight to go there and counterbalance the effect of the Paul folks."

Paul never officially bowed out of the GOP presidential race, but announced last month he would stop actively campaigning in primary states that hadn't voted yet. At the time, he vowed to "continue to take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future."

He said in a letter to supporters last week he would be sending nearly 200 bound delegates to the convention, as well as several hundred other bound Romney delegates who "believe in our ideas of liberty, constitutional government, and a common-sense foreign policy":

When it is all said and done, we will likely have as many as 500 supporters as delegates on the Convention floor.  That is just over 20 percent!

And while this total is not enough to win the nomination, it puts us in a tremendous position to grow our movement and shape the future of the GOP!

Santorum, who ended his presidential bid in April, also revealed he has not been vetted by the Romney campaign as a possible vice presidential pick.

"No one's asked me for anything right now," Santorum said, adding that he's focused on his new PAC and getting true conservative principles into the GOP platform. "If he calls me I'll answer the phone call but I'm not anxious to get back in the fray right now."
