Big Dem donor renounces U.S. citizenship, avoids taxes

Remember Marc Rich -- the billionaire trader who fled the country to avoid charges of illegal oil trading with Iran?

Or perhaps you remember him as the tax evader who received a coveted presidential pardon for his crimes from President Bill Clinton in 2001, thanks in part to his friend Eric Holder?  As investigations later revealed, Rich's wife, Denise, had secured Clinton's pardon for her husband with large political donations to the Clinton campaign.

Marc and Denise have been divorced for a while now, but she's still up to her old tricks.  Although her attorney claims she's dumping her U.S. passport to be "closer to her family," Reuters notes that by renouncing her U.S. citizenship, the former Mrs. Rich will avoid paying tens of millions of dollars in U.S. taxes.  A convenient coincidence, no?
