Union Prez Boasts That 400,000 Union Volunteers Will Campaign Door-to-Door for Obama

Union boss in 2011: "I have conversations with someone in the White House or in the administration -- Everyday"... Video has seemingly been scrubbed from YouTube.

Labor unions plan to send out roughly 400,000 volunteers later this month to canvass voters to support President Barack Obama's re-election.

The effort begins on Aug. 25, when activists fan out across 27 states during a national "day of action."

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka says a record 400,000 union-based volunteers will be knocking on doors and talking to voters in all 50 states later this year.

For the first time, unions can use their funds to target non-union households as well as those with family members in a union. That change comes as a result of the Supreme Court's landmark campaign finance decision in Citizens United.

It is hardly surprising that unions would support President Obama in the upcoming 2012 elections. In 2008, nearly two-thirds of people in union households backed the president in 2008.

It is also noteworthy that Trumka is a regular visitor of the White House, sometimes visiting the White House more than once a week. This is what Trumka said about his relationship with the Obama administration in 2011:

"I'm at the White House a couple times a week. Two, three times a week. I have conversations everyday with someone in the White House or in the administration -- Everyday."

Interestingly enough, all the videos we could find of Trumka's remarks have been scrubbed from YouTube due to "copyright infringements." In fact, it looks as if someone worked very hard to remove most of the videos on blogs and even TheBlaze.

Listed as "claimants" on the copyright infringement complaint are The UpTake, a liberal blog, The Final Call (FCN Publishing), originally founded by none other than Louis Farrakhan as "The Final Call to Islam," and Three Sonorans, a "progressive and activist" blog. It is interesting that these three groups together would have such a problem with Trumka being displayed speaking in his own words, but the video is now hard to come by.

Luckily though, Glenn Beck covered the story while he was still at Fox News and that footage is still available. Beck argued back in 2011 that President Obama had failed to talk to six of of his own cabinet members for two years but allegedly Trumka was somehow in contact with the Obama White House every single day.

It is unclear whether Trumka still enjoys the same level of closeness to the Obama administration as he did last year. However, sending 400,000 union volunteers to campaign for Obama certainly makes it look as if they are still courting one another.
