Man Sets Water-Powered Jetpack Record by Flying Marathon Distance

In about the same amount of time it would take a decently trained runner to complete a marathon, a man has just set the record longest water-powered jetpack ride for the same distance.

Dean O'Malley flew 26.2 miles in four and a half hours from Newport Beach to Catalina Island, according to CBS Local in Los Angeles. The world record-setting trip used gas in addition to water power. He said, according to CBS, that he did it "just to prove that it can be done."

The Los Angeles Times reported a spectator of the event saying "It's like Superman. We got Superman out." The LA Times also draws the marathon comparison with O'Malley saying he trained for months for the flight as if he were running. "Fortunately," he said, "it's easier to fly than to run."
