Who the F**k Is Mitt Romney?': A Detailed Look at Urban Outfitters' Pro-Obama, Anti-Romney T-Shirt Designs

Urban Outfitters is a clothing company known for its controversial messaging. In the not-so-distant past, critics lambasted the company after one of the t-shirts it was selling appeared to have the Holocaust-era Star of David on it. Then, there was a catalogue image of two women kissing -- and who could forget the litany of anti-Christian and anti-capitalist messages embroidered in other clothing examples carried by the company?

Now, during a highly-contentious political season, Urban Outfitters is purportedly taking a stand -- at least when it comes to the themes portrayed on the clothing it carries. Numerous t-shirts feature messages that poke fun at Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, while heralding President Barack Obama. Take, for instance, a $34 shirt being sold on Urban Outfitters' web site. It reads, "Who the F**k is Mitt Romney?"

But why stop there? There's plenty of anti-Romney sentiment to go around. Another message reads, "Mitt Romney Hates Puppies," a likely quip surrounding reports about the presidential candidate's dog (the pup apparently rode in a crate on top of the family's car years ago).

If you weren't sure whether this puppy quip was, indeed, a poke at the dog scenario that has captured so much media attention (or merely a general effort to paint Romney as heartless), consider this more pointed t-shirt design -- featuring Romney's dog Seamus.

And if you're not a fan of expletives or puppies, for that matter, there are still options for anti-Romney sentiment at Urban Outfitters. Also available for just $24 is a shirt that proclaims, "Romney Can't Dunk," with an image of a basketball.

While there are plenty of apparel choices for those looking to publicly -- and directly -- ridicule Obama's Republican challenger, for those seeking a more-under-the-radar or general insult, there's a shirt that is simply aimed at conservatives. It reads, "GOP LOL."

But why bash Romney or the Republicans when you can simply and very literally wear your support for the president? Yet another shirt from the retail chain reads, "99 Problems, But Mitt Ain't One."

While this dismissive quip may appear to be a reference to Occupy Wall Street, there's a grander cultural connection. Years ago, rapper Jay-Z released a song called "99 Problems." One of the lines in the tune, is, "I got 99 problems but a b**ch ain't one." Purposefully switching out the expletive for Romney's name appears to have been the action taken in this instance.

Feel free to deny the aforementioned connections, but it's hard to ignore the fact that Urban Outfitters (or its suppliers -- or both), to some degree, views Obama as a celebrity (or, at least, spinmaster) of sorts.

Of course, you could opt for the red, white and blue design that simply proclaims Obama's name prominently.

Obviously, judging from the above t-shirts, the politically-themed clothing being carried by the retail chain is overwhelmingly pro-Obama, with these serving as exceptions (there are also some other political products, which are Comedy Central-themed).
