George P. Bush, son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and nephew of former President George W. Bush, has made a campaign filing required of anyone planning to seek office in Texas.

Bush filed a campaign treasurer appointment Wednesday, a requirement for someone to become a candidate under campaign finance law, the Associated Press reported. A member of the Texas Ethics Commission told the AP the filing did not specify which office Bush, 36, might seek.

An attorney and real estate developer, the Fort Worth resident has been active in fundraising for Hispanic Republicans and co-founded the Hispanic Republicans of Texas. According to the Dallas Morning News, Bush has been dubbed "47" by some, a reference to the presidential number.

Bush, whose mother was born in Mexico, told the McAllen, Texas Monitor last month he was at least considering running for office.

“After Election Day we’ll see where it leads — I’ve been encouraged to run for office in 2014,” he said in October. “I’m more drawn to state government, issues with education.”

Ana Navarro, who was John McCain's national Hispanic co-chair in 2008, tweeted her enthusiasm about Bush's campaign filing Thursday.

"Wrote check for my friend, @georgepbush newly formed exploratory committee for office in TX. Young, pragmatic, Hispanic, just what GOP needs," Navarro tweeted.

According to the Associated Press, Bush served in the Navy, including a six-month stint in Afghanistan, where he was given a different name for security purposes.

Bush has not commented about the campaign filing.
