Oh the irony! Washington State OKs recreational pot use, Hostess closes the local bakery that makes Twinkies and Ding Dongs

Just a week after two states (CO & WA) voted to approve recreational use of marijuana, comes a bit of depressing news... at least it is bad news for the pot-smoking and snack food craving citizens of Seattle, Washington.

The Hostess Baking Company has announced that they are closing three bakeries in Seattle, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. From the Seattle Times coverage:

Hostess Brands is permanently closing three bakeries in Seattle, St. Louis and Cincinnati after a nationwide strike by its bakers union.

The Texas-based maker of Twinkies and Ding Dongs says the strike has prevented it from producing and delivering products. The three bakeries employ a total 627 workers.

For the uneducated junk food consumer, Hostess is the company that makes Twinkies and Ding Dongs, two foods that potheads have been known to crave when they get hit with a case of "the munchies" -- a reported side effect from marijuana use.

If you happen to be a Twinkie or Ding Dong fan, there is no need to panic... yet. Hostess still has several plants operating around the country and they are working to solve the labor dispute that has forced the closing of the three plants mentioned above. So please, do not hoard these delicious treats.

One of my grandfathers was fond of saying, "God has a great sense of humor." Today, I have proof that Grandpa Briody was 100% correct in that statement.
