Unproductive': FreedomWorks, Dick Armey part ways

Former Rep. Dick Armey has resigned as chairman of the grassroots conservative organization FreedomWorks.

He did so in an email sent to FreedomWorks CEO Matt Kibe on Friday.

"The top management team of FreedomWorks was taking a direction I thought was unproductive, and I thought it was time to move on with my life," Armey told Mother Jones, which first reported the news. "At this point, I don't want to get into the details. I just want to go on with my life."

According to the email, Armey's contract with the group terminates at the end of December.

From Armey's email:

"Effective immediately I expect that Freedom Works shall remove my name, image, and signature from all its letters, print media, postings, web sites, videos, testimonials, endorsements, fund raising materials, and social media, including but not limited to Facebook and Twitter."
