HARTFORD, Conn. (TheBlaze/AP) -- The father of the gunman who killed 26 people in a Connecticut school shooting has claimed his son's body.
Initially, Connecticut Medical Examiner Wayne H. Carver II told the Hartford Courant that the remains of Adam Lanza were claimed several days ago by someone who wanted to remain anonymous. Lanza's burial location is also being kept secret.
A spokeswoman at Carver's office told The Associated Press she could not release details about the status of Lanza's remains. However, a spokesman for the family said Monday that Peter Lanza was the individual who claimed the remains of his son. The spokesman didn't say when the remains were claimed.
Peter Lanza lives in Stamford, Conn., and is a tax director at General Electric.
The 20-year-old Lanza killed 20 first-graders and six educators at the Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14. He also killed his mother in their Newtown home before going on the rampage and then committing suicide.
A private funeral was held earlier this month in New Hampshire for his mother, Nancy Lanza. Police have not offered a motive for the killings.
However, some fascinating information about Carver's alleged decision to direct University of Connecticut geneticists to search for abnormalities that may have led to Lanza's crimes has emerged. The Courant reports that Carver has asked the team to find "any mutations or other abnormalities that could shed light on his motivation" in Lanza's DNA (read more about this in TheBlaze's previous coverage here).
