MSNBC Graphic Falsely Shows Democrats Holding Commanding Majority in U.S. House

(MSNBC)

The 113th Congress was sworn in on Thursday and Republicans were able to hold on to a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and retain Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) as speaker. But the folks over at MSNBC seemingly mixed up their congressional wish list with reality and aired a graphic that showed Democrats enjoying a significant majority in the House, 233-200.

To be fair, MSNBC accidentally switched the Republican and Democrat numbers as the GOP holds a 233-200 majority in the House. At least MSNBC host Alex Witt correctly stated which party controlled the House.

As Mediaite's Noah Rothman puts it, "Mistakes happen, but given the cable news network’s editorial bent, it is hard not to see a little willful self-deception in the graphic they aired. Or, perhaps, a few producers are still recovering from a particularly jolly holiday season."
