Real News': Defending the Second Amendment

In the month following the horrific shooting massacare at an elementary school in nearby Connecticut, the New York state legislature passed a series of new gun control proposals that have been called the toughest in the nation. The legislation tightens restrictions on gun sales, bars ammunition magazines that hold more than seven rounds, and closes gaps in a 2000 ban on assault weapons. The National Rifle Association is expected to challenge the New York law in court as a violation of the Second Amendment.

The powerful gun lobby is not intimidated to take their fight all the way up to the Supreme Court. In the landmark 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller the court affirmed that a D.C. handgun possession ban violated the individual right to possess firearms under the Second Amendment.
