A 63-year-old French woman intending to shoot herself recently had her suicide plans thwarted by her German shepherd.

According to the U.K.'s Daily Telegraph, the woman from Sorgues had gone into her backyard, fired a few test shots with a 22-calibre rifle before she turned the gun on herself.

"At the moment she pulled the trigger, her dog jumped on her and diverted the shot," the Telegraph reported a local police officer saying. In addition, the officer said the dog "probably sensed things and knocked into her to save her."

The Telegraph reported the woman being found by her husband with a chest wound, which was treated at the hospital as non-life threatening.

In other heroic dog news, in Poland earlier this week a 3-year-old went missing in freezing temperatures and, according to authorities, was saved thanks to a canine.

The dog stayed with the child overnight, keeping her warm and signaling rescuers as to where she was.
