The manager of a New Jersey IHOP was killed trying to stop a fight that turned into an early morning shooting at his Newark restaurant Saturday.
Papa Khaly Ndiaye, 30, was pronounced dead several hours after shots were fired around 3 a.m., the New Jersey Star-Ledger reported. Two other men were injured -- one was listed in stable condition and another was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.
According to WPIX-TV, the manager intervened when an argument inside the restaurant turned violent. It continued in the parking lot, and Ndiaye was shot when he went outside to help.
"It was a disturbance inside the IHOP that erupted into a fight between patrons. The manager intervened and shots were fired by one of the persons involved in the fight,” Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio told the Star-Ledger. “We have and are interviewing some participants involved in the fight and are downloading and reviewing video from the interior and exterior. The investigation is very fresh and is ongoing."
Authorities have not released details about what prompted the fight. No arrests have been made.
