Is personal freedom declining in (gulp) Texas?

Texas is a state that prides itself on being a freedom-loving state, but just how free are residents of the Lone Star State?

According to a new study from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, Texas actually ranks 14th in the nation in terms of freedom as defined by a few key areas, including economic freedom and personal liberty.  Since 2009, however, Texas' rank on the freedom list has actually dropped nine spots.

Here's the low-down on Texas:

The state with the highest overall level of freedom is North Dakota, followed by its sister to the South coming in a No. 2.  Tennessee, New Hampshire and Oklahoma round out the study's top five, respectively.
