"...exclusive, luxurious and technologically advanced."

The recently revived Detroit Electric has introduced its first 100-percent battery powered car -- the  SP:01.

The all-electric vehicle has a range of more than 180 miles and can reach up to 155 miles per hour. The company touts it to be the first all-electric sports car to be built in the Motor City. Not only that but it is claimed to be the world's fastest pure-electric car as well.

Production of the only 999 models of the car, which has a starting price of $135,000, will begin in August.

The two-seater, rear-wheel drive sports car weighs little more than 2,350 pounds due to its carbon-fibre body and aluminum platform.

SP:01's battery can be charged in 4.3 hours, according to the company. The battery can also be used in reverse, alternatively powering a home, sort of like how some were rigging their hybrid cars to power homes after Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast took out power in 2012.

“SP:01 is more than just a sports car, it is a mobile energy unit, allowing the user to use its stored battery energy to power not just the car but even an entire home. SP:01 is equipped with bi-directional charge and discharge capability, allowing it to release its stored electrical energy to power a home," Albert Lam ,Detroit Electric’s chairman and Group CEO, said in a statement.

The interior of the car features SAMI (the Smartphone Application Managed Infotainment system), which includes mobile phone capability, a music player, GPS, interior light adjustment and vehicle systems status, like battery charge.

“The SP:01 will be exclusive, luxurious and technologically advanced,” Lam said. “It is a milestone in the history of the Detroit Electric brand, but also a significant development for the international EV sector. The car will allow us to demonstrate to the world our ability to build an exciting and innovative product, one that displays outstanding performance coupled with strong green credentials, and which delivers an exhilarating driving experience.”

Lam revived the company, which was originally started in 1906, in 2008.
