A North Carolina woman was fatally stabbed earlier this week by her husband's best man, KDVR-TV reports.

Jonathan Wayne Broyhill reportedly attacked Jameson "Jamie" Kirk Hahn, 29, and her husband Nation Hahn, 27, with a knife at their home, fatally injuring the woman and wounding her husband. Broyhill then reportedly turned the knife on himself but survived.

Jamie died shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to a statement by the Hahn family.

“Jamie lost her struggle to live this morning,” the family said in a statement. “We lost a beautiful and loving wife, daughter and friend. We all lost a pure and brave spirit.”

In addition to being listed in a South Carolina newspaper as the best man in the couple's 2009 wedding, Broyhill reportedly visited them regularly and even ate dinner with them on Monday.

Broyhill has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. However, Raleigh police say they are in the process of adding a murder charge following Jamie's death on Wednesday night and arrest warrants will be served after the attacker is released from the hospital.

Broyhill was listed in good condition on Thursday.

"Sources told WTVD a possible motive for the attack could involve missing money. Broyhill apparently kept the books for Jamie Hahn’s business and political campaigns," the station reports. Hahn is reportedly a Democratic fundraiser.

WTVD also reports that Broyhill began telling people recently that he is suffering from cancer, a claim that appears to be false.
