Geraldo says 'emotional turmoil' will prevent him from running for NJ's Senate seat
June 07, 2013
Fox News anchor Geraldo Rivera made it clear Monday that he wouldn't be running for the open U.S. Senate seat in New Jersey but he gave a more nuanced take on his decision in a video for Fox News Latino.
"The pace was too accelerated. The deck really too stacked agianst someone like myself of really ordinary means, rather than have one of the big super PACs behind me," he said. "So for reasons of money, for reasons of emotional turmoil in the family, for practical reasons ... I decided not to run and to stay here at Fox and my radio show for the foreseeable future."
Rivera added that he thinks Newark Mayor Cory Booker (D) will win the seat, should he decide to run for it. (Booker has said in the past that he wanted to serve in the Senate but only after finishing his full term as mayor.)
