This 'Sharknado' Movie Looks Absolutely Awful -- And We Couldn't Be More Excited!

"Recognize the divine when you’re in its presence."

It’s a tornado, it's filled with sharks, it's a SyFy Channel original movie, and it premiers tonight at 9:00 pm ET.

It’s “Sharknado”! Just watch the trailer:

Looks awful, right? Of course it does! And yet, for some strange reason, we’re excited to see it:

I mean, come on! A chainsaw/shark fight? How awesome is that? (SyFy)

And it’s not just us. Social media has for the past week has been brimming with excitement for the debut of “Sharknado.”

“I apologize for all the Shark tweets. I guess Nietzsche was right. When you gaze long into a Sharknado the Sharknado also gazes into you,” National Review’s Jonah Goldberg writes.

“You all laugh at Sharknado, but I can think of one Vice President who'll be sleeping with the lights on tonight,” another Twitter user wrote.

“Why is the media showing wall to wall Zimmerman coverage when the #Sharknado is upon us?” the Washington Examiner’s Philip Klein joked.

And so on.

Now, we’re not exactly sure how to explain it, but it appears people are actually excited to see this movie.

Why?

Here, we’ll let Hot Air’s Allahpundit try to make sense of it:

After 100 years of filmmaking, we’ve reached the summit.

And sincerely, Syfy deserves credit for it. Anyone can make an unwatchably stupid, terrible movie; making a stupid, terrible movie that’s compulsively watchable is sufficiently difficult that I’d say it qualifies as art. This is the apotheosis of schlock. Recognize the divine when you’re in its presence.

If you don't have cable or can't get to a television tonight, conservative blogger Ace and his cohort will be live-blogging the action -- because this is a cultural event.

It’ll be awesome. Trust us.
