The Bible' Continues to Take Hollywood By Storm: Miniseries Gets Major Award Nomination

The 2013 Emmy Award nominations are out and for those of you who enjoyed Mark Burnett and Roma Downey's "The Bible," the record-breaking mini-series that aired on the History Channel earlier this year, you have a reason to rejoice. The five-part series has been nominated in three categories, however the most notable is "Outstanding Miniseries or Movie."

The popular, Bible-themed program is in the running against USA Network's "Political Animals," Sundance Channel's "Top of the Lake," FX Network's "American Horror Story: Asylum" and two HBO shows -- "Phil Spector" and "Behind the Candelabra."

In addition to being considered for the top miniseries or movie designation, "The Bible" was also nominated for "Outstanding Sound Mixing For a Miniseries or a Movie" and "Outstanding Sound Editing For a Miniseries, Movie or a Special."

Clearly, there's no end in sight to the series' popularity.

In April, TheBlaze reported that "The Bible" will be adapted for the big screen and that will be playing in select theaters at some point in the near future. And earlier this month, we covered the fact that Burnett and Downey are planning a follow-up series -- one that will pick up right where the last one left off: Jesus’ death.

“The Bible” follow-up, though, will appear on NBC and not the History Channel and it will be called "A.D. Beyond the Bible” (read more about that project here).

The Emmy Awards will air on Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET.
