Pat Robertson Defends Birth Control: 'You See a String of All These Little Ragamuffins

"They just keep having babies..."

Just a few days after Pat Robertson made some surprisingly-sympathetic comments about transgendered individuals, he tackled the issue of birth control. Noting his respectful disagreement with the Catholic Church, the CBN host heralded the importance of contraceptives in modern-day society.

"Yes, birth control is absolutely an important thing for people to use because you want to be able to look after children," Robertson proclaimed after a viewer asked whether Christians are sinning in using contraceptives. "I think the idea of being able to determine when and how is a very important part of humanity."

The failure to educate people about birth control and the subsequent dearth of individuals using it creates some problems, Roberson believes.

"That's the big problem, especially in Appalachia. They don't know about birth control," he continued. "They just keep having babies and you see a string of all these little ragamuffins and not enough food to eat and so forth. It's desperate poverty."
