Groom Behind Paralyzed Wife's Viral Walk Down the Aisle Describes What Was Going Through His Mind During the Touching Moment

"I was trying not to bawl like a baby..."

It was an especially emotional experience for Jared VanAusdale when he saw his bride walking down the aisle over the weekend on their wedding day. Seven years prior she broke her back in an accident and became paralyzed.

After years of therapy and making it her main focus after becoming engaged, VanAusdale was overwhelmed seeing bride Stevie Beale coming toward him with the aid of a walker adorned with her bouquet.

"I was trying not to bawl like a baby in front of 300 people. Seeing her on the walker, reaching that goal that she swore she was going to hit, is something I will never forget," VanAusdale told Today.com.

"Seeing everything come together at that moment and seeing all the hard work pay off...Her in the dress and how beautiful she was...Just kind of overwhelming...tried to keep it together as much as possible," WTVG-TV reported VanAusdale saying.

According to WTVG, Beale was in a car accident seven years ago. At just 17 years old, she was paralyzed from the waist down.

For years, Beale traveled from her home in Toledo, Ohio, to the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan in Detroit for therapy.

She told WTVG ahead of the wedding that her fiance kept her at it.

"Especially having someone say no you can't quit. You have to keep going to therapy, you have to walk down the aisle when I want to just lay down and go to sleep for a week and not think about it has helped me keep going," Beale said.

"My huge stressor is walking down the aisle. I could not care less if the flowers die the day of the wedding or if someone doesn't show up or if the groomsmen are too drunk to walk down the aisle. I don't care," Beale explained.

After making it down the aisle over the weekend, standing for the ceremony with her walker and being carried back down the aisle as VanAusdale's wife, she was sat back in her chair where she was "able to take a deep breath and enjoy the rest of the day."

Although the bride's accomplishment was huge, WTVG reported it would take a medical breakthrough for her to get beyond small steps such as these.

The 2006 crash that injured Beale was a case of road rage, which ended up killing another teen in the car. The drivers of the two respective cars involved in the incident received jail time.
