Ted Cruz was the final speaker for the 2013 Defending the American Dream summit in Orlando, Fla., and the Republican senator from Texas did not disappoint.
Addressing a packed ballroom, Cruz had the audience standing and cheering throughout his remarks.
Of course he covered his favorite topic — defunding Obamacare — and a host of other subjects popular with conservatives. But it was Cruz's opening salvo — a joke about President Obama and "Duck Dynasty" — that set the tone for his energetic speech:
You know, right now one of the most popular television shows in America is "Duck Dynasty." (applause) NowI'm told President Obama's never watched the show. And apparently an aide recently came into the Oval Office to try and explain it to him.
He said, "Mr. President, it's all about this Southern, God-fearing family of entrepreneurs who love liberty and love to hunt."
Obama responded, "So, is it a fantasy show?"
And his response was, "No Mr. President, it's more like a horror film."
And so the president immediately ordered an IRS audit.
