WASHINGTON, DC - SEPTEMBER 26: U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) speaks during a prayer vigile organized by the Christian Defense Coalition outside the White House September 26, 2013 in Washington, DC. Cruz and members of the coalition called for the release of Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedini from an Iranian prison where he has been held for over a year.

Just a few hours before the federal government shutdown Monday night, Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) office sent out a release saying that the Senator intended on giving any salary he earned during the shutdown away to charity.
"If Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) forces a government shutdown, I intend to donate my salary to charity for each day the government is shut down," Cruz said in the release. "Elected leaders should not be treated better than the American people, which is precisely why hardworking Americans deserve the same Obamacare exception that President Obama has already granted Members of Congress."
We reached out to Cruz's office Tuesday morning (many congressional staffers aren't working, due to the shutdown) to see what charities he plans on donating to. Several hours later we got a reply back that we would soon get an actual reply.
We'll let you know when an answer comes in.
