Would You Be OK With a Former Playboy Model Teaching Your Kid Spanish?

"This was the past. Drop it."

A few years ago, Cristy Deweese shared with the world her dream of becoming a Spanish teacher. While it's certainly a noble career choice, she divulged her aspirations with an unlikely outlet -- Playboy.com.

At the time Deweese, now 21, went by the name Cristy Nicole and was featured in the magazine's Feb. 2011 issue, KTVT-TV reports (she was crowned "Coed of the Month").

Flash forward two years and the young woman's dreams are now a reality. She's a teacher at Rosie Sorrels School of Education and Social Services in Dallas, Texas.

But there's just one problem. Parents have caught wind of her previous Playboy antics and, considering that students have gone online to see her nude, some aren't very happy.

"[There are] whispers in the school, ‘Did you hear about the new Spanish teacher?,'" said one parent who told KTVT-TV that she prefers to remain nameless. "Can you be an effective teacher when a classroom full of high school boys is envisioning you naked? Can your female high school students respect you when they’ve seen you naked?"

This particular mother first became concerned after her son showed her provocative pictures of teacher.

Not everyone agrees that Deweese's career should suffer, though.

On The Dallas Morning News, a number of readers commented that her actions are long in the past and that everyone should simply leave her alone.

"She's not harming anybody," wrote one reader. "It's nothing but gossip. And she dresses pretty professional to me. ... This was the past. Drop it."

While the Dallas Independent School District is aware of parental frustration, officials say it is a private personnel matter. Deweese was not an employee at the time of the photo shoot.

In a video that discusses adult subject matter, Deweese can be seen divulging her career goals and posing seductively.

In light of the images and clips that are circulating both on campus at Rosie Sorrels School of Education and Social Services and beyond, the main question is: Can students still respect the educator now that they have seen her nude?

From the responses it's clear that there are three camps: Those who believe Deweese should no longer be a teacher, those who forgive her for the past -- and a select group that is simply uncertain.
