Stupid criminal alert!

A Monte Alto man has been charged with faking his own kidnapping. Deputies said he did it so he could go with his friends to a party.

Deputies were called the couple's house on FM 2812 west of Jesus Flores Road at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Andaverde's wife said masked men entered the house and took her husband at gunpoint. About a dozen deputies and a DPS helicopter were sent to search for him. They gave up after several hours.

Andaverde showed up back at his house Thursday morning. He told his wife the kidnappers had released him.

Investigators now say he made up the story. He was charged with a misdemeanor for filing a false report. His bond was set at $5,000.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said his investigators are tracking down the fake kidnappers. They also could face charges.
