Is 'The View' Regretting That Decision About Elisabeth Hasselbeck?

"...viewers want to tune out..."

Might ABC's "The View" be regretting its decision to part ways with Elisabeth Hasselbeck?

A report from gossip site Radar Online said the network is already considering dumping Hasselbeck's replacement, actress and former Playboy playmate Jenny McCarthy, just one month into her stint as a co-host on the weekday talk show.

“ABC has begun doing deep research on Jenny’s work on the show and the initial findings are that viewers want to tune out the second she opens her mouth!” a "production source" told Radar. “The data has revealed that she is FAR more off-putting than Elisabeth.”

A spokesperson for "The View," however, pushed back on the story, telling E! News there was no truth to it.

Hasselbeck, who was the lone conservative voice on "The View," left the show over the summer to join Fox News following rumors that she was getting kicked off because of her politics.

"The View" matriarch Barbara Walters, who has announced her decision to retire next year, “isn’t looking for a replacement for Jenny yet, she is obsessed with ratings and the longevity of the show, so Jenny needs to turn it around or she will be gone,” Radar's source said.

“If Barbara wants her out, they will buy out her contract," the source said. “Right now they’re just trying to adjust Jenny’s performance on the show so that she comes off as more appealing, but that’s an uphill battle.”

McCarthy has been outspoken against the dangers of vaccines, which she believes caused her son's autism.

Hasselbeck, for her part, appears to be having the opposite effect at Fox News: Ratings for "Fox & Friends," which she co-hosts, were up 16 percent in her first full month on the show, according to Deadline Hollywood.
