We Take Responsibility': Costco Apologizes for 'Fiction' Bible Flap

"...should have caught the mistake."

Costco has apologized for selling Bibles labeled "fiction" in one of the major retailer's stores.

In a statement to Fox News, Costco said some of the copies were improperly labeled "$14.99 Fiction" before being shipped to a store in Simi Valley, Calif.

"Costco's distributor mislabeled a small percentage of the Bibles, however, we take responsibility and should have caught the mistake. We are correcting this with them for future distribution," the company said. "We greatly apologize for the error."

Costco said all of the Bibles were promptly relabeled.

The apology comes after California Pastor Caleb Kaltenbach noticed the Bible designation while shopping at the store on Friday and tweeted a picture of it out to his followers.

“All the Bibles were labeled as fiction. It seemed bizarre to me,” he told conservative commentator Todd Starnes earlier this week.

In an appearance on Fox News, Kaltenbach said Costco's labeling "probably was a mistake," but that he has no definitive idea whether that was the case.

Regardless of the motivation for the labeling, Kaltenbach encouraged Christians throughout America to stand up for their faith.
