CNN approached Jay Leno: report

Sources tell THR that CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker -- who, while running NBCUniversal, famously set in motion [NBC late night host Jay] Leno's first ouster from Tonight by promising the show to Conan O'Brien in 2009 -- is among those who have approached Leno for a late-night or primetime show on his network.

Leno is out as the longtime host of "The Tonight Show" in February 2014.

Earlier this month, Zucker said in an interview with Capital New York that CNN would be moving away from being a purely news-focused channel and venture into programming more specials and documentaries.
