This Particular Case Goes to Show You Can Never Let Your Guard Down

"This is probably random."

A shootout during a home invasion Monday night in South Carolina left one suspect dead and two on the run, police say.

Forest Acres police Chief Gene Sealy said six people inside a home heard a knock at the door just before midnight. When one went to investigate who was there, three intruders stormed inside the house and started firing shots, demanding money while pistol whipping the occupants, according to WLTX-TV.

As the suspects started moving toward the rear of the home, Sealy said one of the house's occupants returned fire and shot a suspect who died at the scene.

The suspect was later identified as DeShawn T. Patterson, 23, according to WLTX-TV. The other two ran away with nothing and are still being sought by police.

Police say the individuals seemed to have just targeted a random household.

According to WLTX-TV, none of the occupants suffered any serious injuries.
