The Unusual Duty a Pair of Officers Performed on the Job That Parents Everywhere Will Relate To

"I've changed many outside of work, but in 15 years, I've never had to..."

It's unlikely a pair of Georgia officers ever anticipated they'd have to change diapers while on the job, but when duty called last month, two Dunwoody police officers answered.

According to the Dunwoody Police Department, officers Kerry Stallings and Mark Steven responded Feb. 21 to a Walmart and arrested two parents suspected of shoplifting.

That left no one except the officers to take care of two infants badly in need of attention — "one in need of a serious diaper change and the other crying so loud the sergeant on scene developed a headache," the department said.

"Officers Stallings and Stevens went right to work. Both are expert fathers as well as police officers," added a caption on a photo showing one of the officers on diaper duty. "Diaper changed, baby stopped crying and later the babes were turned over to family members."

The photo showing the officer's actions has now received national attention. It was initially posted on the Dunwoody Police Department's Facebook page and from there was widely circulated on the Internet.

In an interview with WKYC-TV, Stevens said it was the first diaper change he's ever performed on duty.

"I've changed many outside of work, but in 15 years, I've never had to change a diaper at work," he said.
